Hesperia Man who Shot and Killed Dog has been Arrested on Felony Charges

LOCATION: 14600 Block of Mojave Street, Hesperia
SUSPECT(S): Scott Binder, 36-years-old, Resident of Hesperia
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at about 5:30 p.m., Hesperia Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Ballinger conducted an animal cruelty investigation where a male subject was seen on video provoking and then shooting a dog in a yard.
Through investigation, Ballinger identified 36-year-old Hesperia resident Scott Binder as the possible suspect. Ballinger conducted surveillance at Binder’s residence and observed a vehicle, similar to the one seen in the video, parked in the front yard.
On Thursday, October 30, 2025, deputies from the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station served a search warrant at Binder’s residence in Hesperia. Evidence was located confirming Binder was the subject in the video who shot and killed the victim’s dog. Binder was arrested for multiple felony charges, including animal cruelty, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Binder was booked into High Desert Detention Center where he remains in custody.
