SUBJECT: Structure Fire & Arson Investigation
 
LOCATION: 1300 Block of Marshall Street, Redwood City
 
DATE/TIME: November 1, 2025 7:53 AM
                                               
On Saturday, November 1, 2025, at approximately 7:53 a.m., the Redwood City Police Department received a call for service regarding flames seen from an apartment building in the 1300 block of Marshall Street in Redwood City. The Redwood City Police Department and Redwood City Fire Department responded immediately.
 
First responders identified an active fire in the structure and evacuated all residents. All residents were safely evacuated and no immediate injuries were reported. 3 apartment units sustained fire and/or water damage as a result of this incident.
 
Investigators from the police and fire department learned the fire may have been intentionally set and a suspect was identified. Later in the evening of November 1, 2025, the suspect, 35 year old Redwood City resident Eliaser HernandezValadez, returned to the apartment complex. He was ultimately arrested without incident and later booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility for Penal Code 451(b) – Arson to Inhabited Dwelling; Penal Code 452(a) – Reckless Burning and Penal Code 1203.2(a) – Probation Hold.
