8/03 – 12:35 a.m. – Police performed a traffic stop on a vehicle at Washington Street and Jefferson Street, and suspected the driver to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation revealed the driver to be in possession of a controlled substance. The substance was submitted to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab. The police report and lab results were submitted to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges. On October 6th, the state’s attorney’s office charged the defendant, Travis J. Niermann, age 37 of Fairview Heights, with the following:
Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (Cocaine); A Class 4 Criminal Felony.
Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol; A Class A Misdemeanor.
He was apprehended on the warrant by another agency a few weeks later.
