Advisory

GPFDPS has recently seen an increase in thefts involving infotainment systems from Dodge vehicles. Please report any suspicious behavior.

The Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety is alerting residents to a recent increase in thefts targeting infotainment systems from Dodge vehicles, particularly Ram trucks and other Dodge products.

Over the past several weeks, Metro Detroit agencies have reported a spike in these incidents. Thieves are forcibly entering parked vehicles and removing the dashboard touchscreen units and associated electronic modules. These thefts typically occur during overnight hours and can be completed in just minutes.

What You Can Do:

  • Park your vehicle in a locked garage or well-lit area whenever possible.

  • Do not leave valuables or visible electronic devices inside your vehicle.

  • Consider installing a security camera or motion-activated lighting near your driveway to enhance security.

  • Immediately report any suspicious activity, such as individuals looking into vehicles, loitering in driveways, or operating vehicles slowly through neighborhoods late at night.

These infotainment units can cost several thousand dollars to replace, and the crimes are believed to be part of a coordinated effort targeting Dodge vehicles across southeast Michigan.

Anyone who observes suspicious behavior or has information related to these thefts is urged to contact the Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety at (313) 885-2100, or dial 911 for crimes in progress.

Working together, we can help deter these thieves and protect our community.
