Leonia Scouts - Scouting for Food
Please extend yourself to our neighbors in need!
In Leonia, 270 people rely on the SNAP program, NJ's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which provides food assistance to families with low incomes to help them buy groceries and other staples. The Federal Government furlough ceased funding SNAP benefits on November 1, 2025. This means over 800,000 New Jerseyans will lose access to the food assistance they rely on including children, seniors, and our veterans. Nearly half are children, one in three include a person with a disability, and one in five include a senior over age 60. The disruption will also place added pressure on food banks, schools, and local organizations across the state.
The Borough is working with Leonia Scouts who are conducting their Annual Scouting for Food collection.
- The Scouts will be dropping off bags at your doorstep for pickup on Saturday November 15th from 9am until noon.
- If you do not receive a bag, you can still contribute by dropping off at the American Legion on November 15th.
- Most needed items: soup, beans, canned vegetables, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, pasta sauce, diapers, toilet paper, laundry detergent, toiletries. No clothing, no open/expired goods.
- You may also drop off items starting now at St. John's Food Pantry, 470 Broad Ave, at the rear entrance to the church in the Kingsley Street parking lot, weekdays from 9am to 3pm.
