Press Release: Fremont Police School Resource Officers Arrest Prolific School Burglary Suspect

Fremont Police Department School Resource Officers (SROs) have arrested a suspect responsible for a series of school burglaries throughout the Bay Area.

On October 3, 2025, a Fremont elementary school reported a suspicious individual walking around campus. When confronted by staff, the suspect provided conflicting explanations for being on the property and left shortly thereafter. Following this incident, Fremont SROs began receiving additional reports of missing items from classrooms at multiple schools across the district.

Through a coordinated investigation, Fremont Police identified the suspect as Christopher Britton, a resident of Fairfield, California. Britton was already wanted by multiple law enforcement agencies in Solano, Contra Costa, Marin, Alameda, and Yolo Counties for similar thefts occurring on school campuses. Investigators determined that Britton was specifically targeting school classrooms, stealing teachers’ credit cards, and using them to make fraudulent purchases at various retail stores.

Fremont Police SROs worked tirelessly to track Britton’s activities and prevent further victimization of educators. On November 3, 2025, while conducting a follow-up activity in Walnut Creek, a Fremont SRO spotted Britton returning a rental vehicle believed to have been used during one of the burglaries. Working in collaboration with the Walnut Creek Police Department, officers quickly moved in and arrested Britton after he attempted to flee the area.

A photo of suspect Christopher Britton is included in this press release.

"Our educators come to work each day to teach and support our children—they should never have to worry about being targeted by criminals,” said Fremont Police SRO Sergeant Richard Hamblin. “The dedication of our SROs and their collaboration with neighboring agencies made this arrest possible, helping ensure the safety of our schools and staff.”

The Fremont Police Department encourages any individuals or schools who believe they may have been victimized by this suspect to contact their local police agency and file a report.
