NJDOT Traffic Advisory -- Route 53 lane shift for approximately one month. See e-mail for details.
Route 53 lane closures with alternating traffic as pavement project advances in Denville, Morris County. Alternating traffic needed to shift traffic for work zone on Route 53 southbound (Trenton) –
By 6 a.m. Friday, November 7, traffic on Route 53 southbound will be shifted to the left onto the northbound side of the roadway, and Route 53 northbound will be shifted to the right onto the shoulder. The traffic shift is necessary to create a work zone in the right shoulder on Route 53 southbound for drainage pipe replacement and basin installation, curb and sidewalk replacement, and pavement reconstruction. This pattern is expected to remain in place for approximately one month.
This work is part of a $5.3 million federally funded project that will restore approximately two and a half miles of pavement on Route 53 between Pondview Road in Parsippany-Troy Hills and Hall Avenue in Denville, Morris County. This project also includes updating guiderail, upgrading sidewalks and ADA-compliant curbs ramps, and making safety and operational improvements at the Route 53-Fox Hill Road/Lackawanna Avenue Intersection. This project is expected to be completed in late summer 2026. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
