The North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA) has announced the Madison Street Area Infrastructure Improvement Project will require overnight road closures beginning next week. Once completed, the project will help mitigate rainfall flooding and upgrade critical underground infrastructure on Madison Street between Ninth and 11th Streets. 

The following overnight road closures are anticipated between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.: 

Monday, Nov. 10: 

• Madison Street between Eighth Street and 11th Street 
• Ninth Street between Madison Street and Jefferson Street 
• 10th Street between Madison Street and Jefferson Street                    

Tuesday, Nov. 11:                  

• Madison Street between 11th Street and 12th Street 
• Ninth Street between Monroe Street and Madison Street 
• 10th Street between Madison Street and Jefferson Street 

Wednesday, Nov. 12:

• Ninth street between Monroe Street and Madison Street 
• 11th Street between Madison Street and Jefferson Street 

Thursday, Nov. 13: 

• Madison Street between Ninth Street and 10th Street 

Hoboken Police Officers will be on site to assist with detours, traffic control, and pedestrian safety. Detour and variable messaging signs will also be in place ahead of the overnight closures. 

Area residents and businesses impacted by overnight water service interruptions will be notified directly by the contractor. 

Daytime work will continue in conjunction with the overnight activities on Ninth Street between Monroe and Jefferson Streets, and on Madison Street between Ninth and Tenth Streets. No road closures are anticipated during the daytime working hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Temporary no-parking signs, however, remain in place for curbside construction activities. 

NHSA now anticipates completing the work and fully reopening roads and sidewalks, by mid-December. This updated schedule reflects several factors that contributed to earlier delays, including underground utility conflicts, weather delays, and unexpected utility lead times. More recently, a citywide suspension of all nonessential construction projects near or connected to the water system to prevent further stress on the infrastructure temporarily paused some portions of the project, pushing back the original timeline.
