Officer’s proactive traffic stop leads to arrest of an adult male for possession of a machinegun, possession of a multi-burst trigger, possession of a concealed and loaded firearm in public, and possession of a narcotic substance for sale.
 
San Mateo, CA – On November 7, 2025, at approximately 1:37 p.m., a San Mateo police officer patrolling the intersection of Delaware St. and 25^th Avenue initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle for illegal window tint and expired registration.
 
During the traffic stop, officers contacted Carron Patterson, the driver of the vehicle. In plain view, officers observed an open bottle of tequila inside the vehicle and smelled a strong odor of fresh marijuana. A probable cause search was conducted, and inside a black backpack in the backseat of the vehicle, officers located a Glock pistol with a multi-burst trigger, an extended magazine, and a round in the chamber of the pistol. Officers also located inside the backpack 2 scales and packaging materials commonly associated with drug sales, psilocybin mushrooms, 17 oxycodone pills, and marijuana.
 
Patterson was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail for converting a firearm to a machinegun, possession of a controlled substance while armed, carrying a concealed firearm within a vehicle, possession of an unconventional pistol, possession of a multi-burst trigger, carrying a loaded firearm in public under specific circumstances, possession of a machinegun, possession of marijuana for sale, and possession of a loaded, concealed firearm.
