SHERIFF SHANNON DICUS, BOARD OF SUPERVISORS CHAIR DAWN ROWE CELEBRATE COLORADO RIVER STATION REMODEL RIBBON CUTTING

NEEDLES, CA – San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus and Board of Supervisors Chair and 3rd District Supervisor Dawn Rowe, joined by community partners, celebrated the ribbon cutting of the remodeled Colorado River Station in Needles. The modernized facility represents a major investment in public safety and community service in one of San Bernardino County’s most rural regions.

The Colorado River Station will serve as the hub for law enforcement services in the City of Needles and the surrounding Colorado River region, where deputies cover 5,200 square miles of unincorporated area and 90 miles of riverfront that draws nearly 17 million visitors annually. In 2024 alone, deputies assigned to the Colorado River Station and the City of Needles responded to nearly 22,400 calls for service, including over 15,700 proactive calls, 6,600 dispatched calls, and filed more than 1,850 reports. Deputies also processed 403 bookings through the station’s on-site 30-bed Type I jail facility.

Sheriff Shannon Dicus said the upgraded station reflects the Department’s long-term commitment to the region and will strengthen service delivery. “The Colorado River Station is more than a building — it is the hub of public safety for the City of Needles and the river communities we proudly serve. These upgrades provide our deputies with the modern tools and resources they need to keep pace with the unique demands of this area. Whether it’s patrolling the vast stretches of rural desert, ensuring safety along the Colorado River, or operating our local jail facility, this remodel ensures we are not just responding to crime, but actively preventing it. It represents an investment in both our deputies and the communities they protect.”

Board of Supervisors Chair Dawn Rowe underscored the importance of this project to a community that sits at the intersection of rural challenges and cross-border dynamics. “This remodel ensures that our Sheriff’s Department has the facilities and resources needed to meet those challenges head-on. It is also a testament to the County’s commitment to investing in rural communities, ensuring that residents in Needles and the Colorado River region can count on the same level of safety, service, and modern facilities as any community in San Bernardino County.”

The Colorado River Station also oversees two resident posts at Parker Dam and Havasu Landing, as well as the Water Safety Center at Park Moabi Regional Park.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is the law enforcement agency for the largest geographical county in the nation. Sheriff Shannon Dicus currently serves as San Bernardino County’s 36th Sheriff-Coroner. The department serves over 2.1 million residents, with eight county and 14 contract patrol stations and more than 4,200 employees dedicated to ensuring public safety and protecting quality of life.
