Gloucester Township Police Crime Stoppers VIDEO/ AUDIO- Fake Gloucester Township Police Officer "Sergeant Dave Young" Voicemail

On Monday, November 25, 2025, several Gloucester Township residents reported receiving phone calls from fake "Gloucester Township Police Officers". Two of the names used were "Sergeant Dave Young" and "Sergeant David Johnson".
In this sample voicemail provided by a resident, the fake officer used the potential victim's actual name (removed from this recording), claimed they were calling about a bullying incident, and provided a phone number for them to call back (that number is now out of service). In another incident, a resident was persuaded into believing they had to pay bail to the police department, and were instructed to pay in Bitcoin. That resident thankfully stopped and realized they were being scammed by a fake police officer.
Gloucester Township Police Detectives investigated these reported calls, and discovered that other surrounding towns have received similar complaints of scammers posing as police officers. Gloucester Township Police reminds our residents, and surrounding residents of the following:
❗️ - Gloucester Township Police or any Law Enforcement Agency DOES NOT call on the phone, demanding money- even if your caller ID shows GTPD's or another agency's phone number (spoofing).
❗️ ONLY SCAMMERS demand money over the phone, REAL police and federal agents come to your door in person with warrants or to investigate an incident.
❗️ ONLY SCAMMERS demand payment in cryptocurrency (Bitcoin or Ether) by ordering you to go to a Crypto machine at a local store. No legitimate law enforcement agency or business is going to demand you send cryptocurrency, especially if they claim to be from Medicare, Tech Support, Geek Squad, Norton Antivirus, Amazon, any financial institution, the FBI, or your local Police Department.
