City Councilmember appointment process information
On November 17th, during the City Council’s Regular Meeting, the Sonora City Council elected to take no action on selecting a replacement for the vacant Ward 2 Council Member position. One of the candidates was unable to attend the meeting due to an injury but provided advance notice to the Council. In fairness and to ensure equal opportunity, the Council voted to allow this candidate to give his presentation at a Special Called Meeting scheduled for December 3rd at 4:10 P.M at City Hall, 201 E. Main, Sonora, Texas.
At this time, the two individuals who have submitted their names for consideration are Todd Munn and Juanita Barrera. The City Council has also elected to keep the application process open, allowing additional interested individuals to submit their names for consideration.
The Council holds the authority to either:
- Appoint a replacement to fill the vacancy left by former Councilwoman Betty Hernandez,
OR - Leave the position vacant until the next regular election, allowing the voters to select the next Ward 2 representative.
Sonora residents who wish to share their thoughts, whether in support of, or in opposition to, any of the candidates, are encouraged to contact their Council Members directly.
Individuals who would like to submit their name for consideration should contact:
Belia Fay, City Secretary
City of Sonora
201 East Main Street

Candidates will be allowed three presentation minutes during the special meeting to express their interest to the city council.
For more information, please call City Hall at (325) 387-2558 and ask for the City Secretary.
We hope this notice provides clarity regarding the current process for filling the Ward 2 Council Member vacancy.
