UPDATE: As off 11:15 a.m., first responders have cleared the area as an individual was not located. We continue to encourage the public to report any suspicious activity in the area by calling our non-emergency dispatch line at 843-524-2777.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and area first responders are currently investigating a report of an individual in distress on the McTeer Bridge in Port Royal.

At this time, no individuals have been located; however, out of an abundance of caution, emergency personnel remain on scene conducting a thorough search of the area.

Residents and motorists may notice an increased first responder presence. We respectfully ask the public to use caution in the area, to allow emergency crews space to work safely and efficiently.

The public is also encouraged to report anything suspicious in the area by calling the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency dispatch line at 843-524-2777.
