Advisory

Prepare for Winter Weather, Heavy Wet Snow, Groot Waste Pickup Changes

Heavy wet snow will begin before dawn on Saturday morning and accumulate quickly at times throughout the day.  Burr Ridge is under a Winter Storm Warning by the National Weather Service and could see 8”-12” of snow on Saturday followed by blowing and drifting conditions on Sunday.  Our Public Works Department is prepared but wishes to advise you of the following:

On-street parking is prohibited from Saturday at 6AM to Sunday at 6PM.  Vehicles should be parked in garages or driveways – and locked.   Remind visitors, service providers, and contractors to move vehicles off the streets so our Public Works crews can work to clear our roadways most effectively.

Groot waste pickup on Saturday will start earlier at 6:00AM, but no yard waste bags or containers will be taken.  For areas south of 79th Street, place only your trash and recycling receptacles by the street before 6:00AM, and promptly move them back to your house after they have been emptied.  Landscape yard waste will continue on December 4th-5th and December 11th-12th.  Residents can check the company’s website at www.groot.com or download the Groot App to stay informed of scheduling changes.

Our Public Works Department is prepared for the worst and will be operating snowplow trucks and treating roadways continuously throughout the winter storm this weekend.  Please refrain from blowing, shoveling or plowing snow onto our roadways.  Clearing snow off the sidewalks and from around fire hydrants benefits everyone.

Shoveling heavy, wet snow requires physical exertion; residents are reminded to be cautious and pay attention to your health risks.  Also, please assist any neighbors who may need help clearing snow from their driveways, sidewalks, mailboxes, and fire hydrants.

If you need medical assistance or have an emergency, please call 9-1-1.  To report a damaged mailbox, go to https://www.burr-ridge.gov/citizen_request_center/index.php and our crews will respond after snow and ice operations are completed.  Continue to monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local news outlets for up to date information from the National Weather Service.
