Protect yourself and your property this holiday season.
'Tis the Season...
Prime hunting season for thieves that is. They target you, your cars, and unfortunately, your homes. Here are some holiday safety reminders to protect you and your property.
Home Security:
-Keep all windows, doors, gates & garages locked, even when home.
-Ensure alarm systems, doorbell & security systems are operational and time stamped.
-Make sure all spare keys and garage door remotes are accounted for and protected from outsiders.
-Invest in a camera security system if you don't have one and make sure all cameras are pointed at the entry/exits of your home, as well as the street.
-If traveling, use lights on timers and have a trusted person promptly pick up mail, newspapers, and packages. And have garbage cans brought in.
-Don't post travel plans or gift hauls on social media.
-Make sure all your exterior lighting works and is LED.
Vehicle Safety:
-Keeps doors and windows secured.
-Use a theft deterrent device like a steering wheel lock, anti-theft systems, and GPS tracking systems.
-Don't leave valuables in plain sight.
-If leaving items, hide them in the trunk. And if having to return to the store, consider moving your vehicle so you give the impression you are leaving.
-Park in well lit, public areas.
Personal Safety:
-Be aware of your surroundings and don't be distracted by your phone. Look, listen, and feel. Walk with purpose.
-Walk to your vehicle with keys in hand, ready to enter your car quickly, lock your doors immediately, and leave promptly.
-Shop with a buddy.
-Keep your purse/wallet close to your body. Purse zipped and wallet in your front pocket vs. the back.
-Only walk in well lit, public places.
-Don't display large amounts of cash.
Do what you can to make yourself and your property less enticing. And remember, if you see something, say something. Call 911 in an emergency.
