Fairfield Police Provide Update on September 16 Shooting Incident at Fairfield High

The Fairfield Police Department is reporting the successful resolution of a case stemming from a shooting incident that occurred on the grounds of Fairfield High School earlier this year.

On September 16, 2025, shortly after students were released from Fairfield High School for the day, officers were dispatched to the parking lot located between the school’s campus and football stadium, following reports of an altercation.

The altercation, callers reported, had quickly escalated when a juvenile fired multiple rounds at another individual. Thankfully, although a vehicle was struck by gunfire, there were no injuries. The suspect subsequently fled the scene.

Fairfield Police officers demonstrated an exceptional level of preparedness and rapid response, arriving on the scene within 60 seconds of the initial report. Their immediate coordination with Fairfield High School staff as they secured the area was critical in maintaining the safety of students and staff.

The case was immediately transferred to the Department’s Youth Services Unit (YSU), whose members dedicated extensive hours to the follow-up investigation. School Resource Officers (SROs) poured through hours of surveillance footage, completed dozens of interviews, conducted searches of residences, and completed numerous photo line-ups.  Their collaborative efforts resulted in the juvenile shooter surrendering to authorities within days.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld due to age, was already awaiting sentencing for a prior firearm-related case at the time of the shooting. The follow-up investigation in that case resulted in the suspect being found guilty of Assault with a Firearm, with an added gun enhancement.

In connection with both the pending firearm charge and the high school shooting, the juvenile was recently sentenced to 12 months of supervision.

After receiving credit for time already served, the suspect will remain in a juvenile detention facility for an additional six months, followed by three months of GPS-monitored post-release supervision.

The Fairfield Police Department operates independently of the judicial sentencing process. We neither possess the authority to influence criminal sentences nor are we contacted to provide recommendations. Sentencing decisions are determined by the judicial system through established criminal justice procedures, remaining outside the scope of Police Department operations.

Regardless of the judicial outcome in this case, our School Resource Officers remain focused on their core mission: "Guiding youth, growing trust, securing our community's future."

The Fairfield Police Department commends the tireless work and dedication of the numerous officers and Youth Services personnel who ensured justice in this case.

We also commend the students and faculty at Fairfield High School for their composure and cooperation during this chaotic and frightening situation. Their calmness was a significant factor in managing the scene, and the professionalism displayed by both officers and district personnel was exemplary.

This resolution underscores our commitment to a safe educational environment and serves as a testament to the dedication of our officers.
