On Saturday, May 10, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Inmate James Damonte Beasley was transported to Southern Regional Medical Center for medical treatment. He was under surveillance by a Clayton County Sheriff's Correctional Officer and secured in handcuffs and shackles.

At approximately 5:20 a.m., Inmate Beasley was able to free himself from his restraints and flee the hospital premises.

Upon being notified of the escape, I immediately activated our emergency response protocols. Intelligence indicated that the escapee was able to obtain civilian clothing and boarded a MARTA bus.

Law enforcement worked together and spotted Inmate Beasley at the East Point MARTA station. Inmate Beasley carjacked a citizen for a black Ford F-150 and fled the scene.

A brief vehicle pursuit ensued. The escapee crashed the stolen vehicle and was promptly taken into custody.

Inmate Beasley was booked in on  March 18, 2025 for Violation of Probation (On an Original Charge- Theft- Bringing Stolen Property to Georgia.)

An internal investigation into the escape and related policy violations is currently underway, in conjunction with a pending disciplinary hearing for the involved officer.
