East Greenbush Holiday Parade Information - Columbia Tpke Closure information for 12/6 @ 5:30PM
The Town of East Greenbush Annual Holiday Parade will take place on Saturday, December 6th and we need everyone to be aware of certain road closures in advance of the event.
This year’s parade route will go from Hannaford Plaza to Becker’s Farm. The parade will step off at 5:30 PM.
For the safety of parade participants and spectators, the East Greenbush Police Department and Department of Public Works will be coordinating a temporary shut-down of Columbia Turnpike from Route 4 to Becker’s Farm. Please see the details below regarding this closure.
Pre-parade staging will begin around 4:30 PM within Hannaford Plaza (get your groceries and Starbucks early!)
Beginning around 5:00 PM the Department of Public Works (DPW) will work with East Greenbush Police Department (EGPD) to begin restricting traffic and shutting down the section of road for the parade.
The Parade will step off from Hannaford Plaza and travel west-bound on Columbia Turnpike (towards Rensselaer). Columbia Turnpike will be barricaded from the Route 4 intersection for the duration of the parade. The Turnpike will slowly reopen as the parade hits certain points of the parade.
Spectators are welcome to park at local businesses along the parade route, but we recommend you get there no later than 5:15 PM. All cars in plazas, Town Center, Peter Harris Plaza, East Greenbush Bowling Center, VanDerHouten Plaza, Dunkin Donuts, will be restricted from leaving until the parade passes those locations. It is expected to take 30-45 minutes.
Residents that live off of Phillips Road are encouraged to utilize Hays Road to reach Columbia Turnpike during the duration of the parade.
Residents that live in Forrest Pointe/Rock Rose Drive will be able to enter and exit via the lower Market 32/Price Chopper Plaza exit.
Police Officers and Fire Police will be stationed at intersections along the route. Please follow all instruction and signage during the parade.
Throughout the parade, please be mindful that there are a significant number of large vehicles, so please stay out of the roadway and watch children closely.
Once the last vehicle makes its way into Becker’s the road will reopen shortly thereafter, once the crowd has moved off of the Turnpike and into Becker’s Farm where everyone is invited to visit with Santa and have some hot chocolate while enjoying the evenings festivities.
Fireworks are anticipated to be set off around 7:00 PM.
