Suspect Arrested for Burglary and Vandalism
After committing burglary and felony vandalism of multiple vehicles in the Hillsdale Mall parking lot, the suspect entered the mall after it had closed. The suspect then took a bicycle and several cell phones from the lost and found area before leaving the mall on the bicycle. The suspect was detained and arrested shortly thereafter.
San Mateo, CA – On December 5, 2025, at 5:16 a.m., the San Mateo Police Department responded to the Hillsdale Mall for a suspicious person report involving possible vandalism. During the investigation, officers learned that Valissa Guzman Lopez had vandalized multiple vehicles in the mall parking lot, entered one of the vehicles through a shattered window, and committed theft.
Guzman Lopez then entered the Hillsdale Mall, which was not open to the public at that time. Guzman Lopez went into the security lost and found area, where she took a bicycle and multiple cell phones. Guzman Lopez then attempted to leave the area on the bicycle with the cell phones in her possession. Guzman Lopez was detained and subsequently arrested by officers for second-degree burglary from a motor vehicle, second-degree burglary, and felony vandalism. Guzman Lopez was later transported to the San Mateo County Jail and booked on her charges.
