Jury Convicts Local Man for Sexually Assaulting Two Different Children
In 2024, Isaiah Washington, age 26, of Beloit, sexually assaulted two different underage girls. Last week, after three days of trial, a Rock County jury found him guilty of multiple counts of Sexual Assault of a Child.
In April of 2024, Washington molested a 13-year-old in the back of a car, and then sexually assaulted her in the bathroom of an apartment in Janesville. She reported the assault the next day. She gave a forensic interview at the YWCA Care House, and Detective Justin Stubbendick of the Janesville Police Department investigated, arresting Washington.
In late 2024, as Washington was in the Rock County Jail, a child reported that Washington had done the same to her at a house in Beloit when she was eleven years old. The young victim also gave a forensic interview at the YWCA Care House, and her case was investigated by Child Maltreatment Officer Dylann Rauch of the Beloit Police Department.
The Rock County District Attorney's Office charged Washington for both victims. Washington refused to plead guilty and demanded his trial. At trial, both young women came to court and testified about what Washington did to them. Other witnesses testified to the presence of semen inside one of the children, and that DNA was consistent with Washington. Washington also testified, claiming that he "had been set up."
Assistant District Attorney Alex Goulart, an experienced sex crimes prosecutor, argued passionately in closing and rebuttal, asking the jury to convict Washington for both of the girls he assaulted. "This defense is a red herring," Goulart argued, elaborating that the jury could know Washington was guilty "because the DNA evidence is damning." Goulart also pointed out that the two victims do not know each other, and could not have collaborated on their stories. "They only have three things in common," Goulart pointed out, "they're soft-spoken children, the Defendant sexually assaulted them, and they were brave enough to speak out."
The jury agreed with Goulart, deliberating for about 90 minutes before returning verdicts of guilty for 1st Degree and 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child. Washington will remain in the Rock County Jail awaiting sentencing. Washington will be sentenced by the Hon. Karl Hanson on February 20, 2026. He faces up to 65 years in prison and 35 years of extended supervision
