Update #1 (September 16):
The occupant of the vehicle who succumbed to his injuries has been identified as Maurice Brown, Jr.
Original Release (September 16):
Wilmington Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a vehicle that fled from police.
On September 16 at approximately 1:16 a.m., police conducted a vehicle stop on Interstate 95. As officers approached the vehicle, the driver – who was known to be wanted for various offenses – fled at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle took the Marsh Road exit and continued to the area of Marsh Road and Edgemoor Road, where it was involved in a single-vehicle, off-roadway collision.
Police found the vehicle to be occupied by four individuals. The driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old male, was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
One of the occupants – a four-month-old male who was not restrained – was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The other occupants – a 32-year-old female and a 10-year-old female – were both transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Criminal charges against the driver in connection with the pursuit and the death of the four-month-old male are pending.

Update #2 (Investigation – Marsh Road and Edgemoor Road):
The driver of the vehicle that fled from police in this incident, 33-year-old Maurice Brown, Sr., has been charged with the following offenses in addition to a vehicle equipment violation, driving without a valid license, operating a vehicle with a child not properly restrained and a violation of probation:
- Murder (Second Degree)
- Assault (First Degree)
- Reckless Endangering (First Degree)
- Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal
