Alert
South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka announced the arrest of a suspect for a spree of crimes on Monday morning. On Monday, December 9, 2025, at 8:45 am, a man driving a Tesla on Catelli Road was confronted by a suspect driving a black Dodge Charger. The Tesla driver said the Dodge pulled in front of his path and pointed a gun at him. The Tesla driver swerved away and drove off, but immediately called 911. As officers were responding, a second 911 caller reported he had just been robbed at gunpoint in the same area. The victim told police he was sitting in his car parked on the street when the Dodge Charger pulled up next to him and robbed him. Minutes later, Plainsboro Police received a 911 call of the same suspect pointing a firearm at a vehicle on Mapleton Road near the South Brunswick border. During the investigation, detectives learned the suspect had committed three additional armed robberies within minutes of the South Brunswick crimes in Mercer County, and in one instance, the suspect fired a round off.
Detectives were able to quickly recover images of the suspect and vehicle using the Tesla video recording system. Police used the Tesla data to identify Bilal Bellamy, age 35, of Newark. The New Jersey State Police, Phillipsburg Police, and New Jersey State Parole were contacted. In under four hours, law enforcement had tracked Bellamy to a residence in Phillipsburg. Bellamy was arrested at the residence. South Brunswick Police executed search warrants at the Phillipsburg home Bellamy was staying at as well as the Dodge Charger in the driveway. Police recovered the firearm, a wig, a mask, and a reflective vest that the suspect had been wearing at the time of the crimes. Mr. Bellamy assaulted a South Brunswick police officer during his detainment. He has been charged with armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point bullets, attempted robbery, terroristic threats, and aggravated assault on an officer. He is lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility.
Chief Raymond Hayducka praised the excellent investigative work that led to the solution of this case. “The modern technology of the Tesla, along with great teamwork, captured this suspect. It was tremendous work that he was arrested so quickly.”
Sergeant Mike Leung, who recovered the Tesla images, explained the importance of making sure the system is activated. “The Tesla had an SD card in it and was set to Sentry mode, which allowed it to be recording everything around it constantly. Those images were critical in identifying the suspect.”
Anyone with additional information regarding these incidents is asked to contact Detective Murphy at 732-329-4000 x 7486.
