PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, December 11, 2025

Traffic Way Bridge to Reopen by December 17, 2025 ARROYO GRANDE, CA – The City of Arroyo Grande is pleased to announce that the Traffic Way Bridge Replacement Project has reached a major milestone: the Bridge is scheduled to reopen by Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Minor cosmetic work remains and will be completed during the first weeks of January. Throughout construction, City staff worked diligently to maintain access to local businesses along Traffic Way and implemented several temporary traffic control measures, including traffic signals. With the bridge reopening, detour routes put in place by the Project contractor will be removed, restoring pre-Project traffic routes. Originally constructed in 1932, the previous bridge had reached the end of its design life. Inspections identified structural concerns including deck cracking, failed expansion joints, spalling concrete, and erosion within the creek channel. The full replacement ensures the safety and reliability of this critical arterial roadway for decades to come. “This Project was a much-needed improvement to ensure the safety of our community for decades to come. While we knew that the complete closure of the bridge was going to be impactful, the City Council’s leadership, the community’s resilience, and the staff’s dedication all contributed to this successful outcome,” stated City Manager Matthew Downing. The City Council and staff thank business owners, commuters, and community members for their patience during this historic project. To celebrate this occasion, a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held in the new year on a date to be announced.
