PUBLIC NOTICE – FIRE HYDRANT TESTING & FLUSHING TODAY

The Tonkawa Fire Department will begin testing and flushing fire hydrants TODAY at 1:00 p.m. This work will include all hydrants east of 4th Street. A hydrant zone map has been included for reference.
</br>
Hydrant testing is a critical part of maintaining our fire suppression infrastructure. These tests verify hydrant flow-rates, ensure adequate pressure for firefighting, and help identify needed repairs before an emergency occurs. Regular flushing also helps keep our water system operating at peak performance by clearing sediment from the lines.
</br>
While we do not expect significant drops in water pressure, customers in the area may notice temporary water discoloration. This discoloration occurs when naturally occurring minerals and sediment are stirred up in the system during the flushing process. It is normal during operations like these and will resolve once the lines settle.

To help protect your appliances and fixtures during this brief period, we recommend the following:

• Avoid doing laundry during the flushing period to prevent staining. </br>
• If you use a reverse-osmosis (R.O.) system, consider removing filters temporarily so sediment does not clog them.
</br>
• Remove or clean aerators and faucet screens if you notice reduced flow.
</br>
• If discoloration appears, run cold water only from your bathtub faucet or an outdoor spigot for several minutes to help flush your home’s lines.

• Water should clear quickly; if discoloration persists longer than expected, contact Tonkawa Utilities.

We are performing today’s testing while school is out, minimizing disruption in high-demand areas. The remainder of the city’s hydrants will be tested next week, and a full schedule will be available on Facebook and through upcoming NIXLE Alerts.
