Celebrate Chanukah at the annual Menorah lighting Sunday; Discounted holiday parking reminder; Uptown Grand Street closure next week

Join the annual Menorah lighting

The City of Hoboken invites residents to celebrate Chanukah at the annual menorah lighting on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 5 p.m. The free family-friendly celebration, at Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington St., is co-hosted by the Chabad of Hoboken and Jersey City and will feature a gelt drop by the Hoboken Fire Department, speakers, prayers, music, and holiday treats.  

Please be advised of street closures in the area between 3 p.m. and approximately 5:45 p.m., including:    
  • Washington Street between Observer Highway and First Street. 
  • Newark Street between Hudson and Bloomfield Streets. 
  • First Street between Bloomfield and Washington Streets.   

During this time, NJ Transit buses will be re-routed onto Bloomfield and Hudson Streets, between Observer and 14th Street. Please abide by posted "no parking" signs and prepare for traffic delays in the immediate area. Hoboken Police will be on hand to assist with detours, pedestrian safety, and other traffic impacts.   

Residents are reminded that the Holiday Hop is available on weekends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Dec. 21. The shuttle route mirrors the weekday Senior Hop route, connecting Washington Street and the west side of Hoboken near the Monroe Center through a loop that takes approximately 45 minutes. Riders will be able to track the real-time location of the Holiday Hop using the Passio GO app. For more information, go to https://local.nixle.com/alert/11998833/.  

Additionally, the City is offering free parking for up to four hours on weekends in municipal Garage B (28 Second Street), Garage D (215 Hudson Street), and the Midtown Garage (371 Fourth Street). The City is also offering free 30-minute parking along Washington Street on weekdays from 3 to 9 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through New Years Day. 1500 Block of Grand Street to be closed Monday through Wednesday 

Due to crane construction, Grand Street will be closed between 15th and 16th Streets, 24/7, beginning at approximately 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15. The road closure, and related detours, will be in place until the completion of the crane work, anticipated by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17.  

Temporary No-Parking signs will be in place. Hoboken Police will be on site during work hours, to assist with traffic detours and pedestrian safety.
