Winter Weather Advisory until 03:00PM Saturday
...SNOW FOR THE SOUTHERN PANHANDLE OVER THE WEEKEND... .A long duration snow event is likely across the panhandle this weekend with two rounds of snow. The first round will bring snow the southern panhandle beginning Saturday morning. Snow will mix with, or change over to, rain in the far southern panhandle beginning Saturday afternoon with the transition continuing into Sunday. For Wrangell, Petersburg, and Kake, the snow looks to arrive later Saturday morning and last into Saturday evening. This snow will fade out Saturday night, leaving a lull in the snow. For Sunday, a second round of snow is possible. This round will bring moderate to heavy snow to the central panhandle, from the Sumner Strait area to the Icy Strait area.
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches.
* WHERE...Prince of Wales Island, Ketchikan Gateway Borough and Annette Island.
* WHEN...From 3 AM to 3 PM AKST Saturday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Final snow totals will be highly dependent on how quickly the cold air is eroded away by the incoming warm air. The 'warmest' case scenario would allow the rain to mix in Saturday morning, which would cut snowfall totals in half. The 'coldest' case scenario would keep snow as the dominate precip- type lasting into Saturday evening. If this plays out, snowfall amounts would be doubled.
* AFFECTED AREAS: PRINCE OF WALES ISLAND ... KETCHIKAN GATEWAY BOROUGH ... ANNETTE ISLAND
