Winter Weather Advisory until 06:00PM Monday
...SNOW FOR THE PANHANDLE OVER THE WEEKEND... .A long duration snow event is ongoing across the panhandle this weekend, and will continue into Monday. Multiple bands of moderate to heavy snow will move up, associated with multiple waves aloft. Strongest snow rates are looking increasingly likely near the Icy Strait corridor this evening, associated with the second wave of precipitation from the south, along with a potential additional band of snow on Monday. Highest uncertainty with snow amounts is near Petersburg and Kake, where warm temperature aloft may limit snow ratios, therefore limiting snow amounts.
* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
* WHERE...Cape Fairweather to Lisianski Strait and City and Borough of Sitka.
* WHEN...Until 6 PM AKST Monday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snowfall rates could vary substantially, as the main forecast challenge remains moisture availability and warming temperatures, which could limit snowfall totals.
* AFFECTED AREAS: CITY AND BOROUGH OF SITKA
