On December 13, 2025, at approximately 4:10 p.m., Fremont Police Department Officers observed a vehicle speeding and driving recklessly in the area of Osgood Road, south of Auto Mall Parkway. Officers initiated a stop by activating the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights, but the vehicle sped from the scene. Officers deactivated the emergency lights in the interest of public safety and lost sight of the vehicle.
A short time later, the vehicle was involved in a collision at the intersection of Osgood Road and South Grimmer Boulevard, in which it ultimately collided with another vehicle, lost control, and crossed onto the sidewalk, where it hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The other motorist was medically examined and released at the scene. The suspect, who is the driver and sole occupant of the primary vehicle, was treated for injuries at a local hospital.
The Fremont Police Department Traffic Unit responded and assumed the collision investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, the suspect vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Osgood Road and South Grimmer Boulevard, where the collision occurred. Investigators are awaiting the toxicology report to determine if drug or alcohol is a contributing factor.
The suspect, Antwone Spruill (a 28-year-old adult male, resident of Fremont), was taken into custody for several traffic-related violations with charges pending.
The Alameda County Coroner's Office responded to recover the decedent. The identity of the decedent is pending confirmation by the coroner and notification to the next of kin.
This is Fremont’s sixth fatal traffic collision in 2025.
