Wilmington Police have arrested a Newark man on gun charges following a vehicle stop.
On December 15th at approximately 5:27 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division conducted a vehicle stop in the 1200 block of Northeast Boulevard in reference to a vehicle violation. Officers made contact with the passenger, 25-year-old Shareif Elsayed, and recovered a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun. Elsayed was taken into custody without incident.
Further investigation revealed the firearm was reported stolen out of the New Castle County Police Department jurisdiction.
Elsayed has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Receiving a Stolen Firearm
He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $33,000 cash-only bail.
