NWS wind advisory in effect for Hoboken overnight; Secure outdoor objects
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Hoboken beginning overnight tonight, at midnight. Winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour (mph), with gusts up to 50 mph, are expected.
Hoboken’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has instructed local contractors to secure their sites. Residents are asked to secure loose objects outside, including holiday decorations, or bring them inside, especially items on balconies. Business owners should also ensure seasonal decorations are properly secured.
Due to the forecasted high winds, residents are strongly encouraged to hold onto cardboard recycling scheduled for collection tonight, and place it at the curb during the next paper and cardboard recycling night on Thursday, Dec. 25. Loose cardboard can blow into the streets, creating hazardous conditions. As a reminder, cardboard must be dry, flattened, and bundled in cardboard boxes, tied with string, or placed in blue covered bins for collection.
Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages. Please report power outages and downed wires to PSEG at https://nj.myaccount.pseg.com/myservicepublic/outagepublic.
Drivers are encouraged to use extra caution, as strong winds can make driving difficult.
A coastal flood advisory is also in effect from 5 a.m. through 11 a.m. tomorrow, Dec. 19.
