OPD Ceasefire Officers Continue Efforts to Keep Guns off the Streets

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and combat violent crime, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) Ceasefire Section recently conducted proactive stops. As a result, officers recovered three firearms and arrested three individuals.
On December 5, 2025, officers assigned to Ceasefire observed a vehicle parked illegally in the 500 block of 16th Street. After contacting the occupants, officers developed probable cause to detain the occupants and search the vehicle, locating a loaded firearm. One individual tried to leave the area. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers stopped the individual and discovered a second loaded firearm.
Early the next morning, in the 500 block of 18th Street, Ceasefire officers observed an individual trying to conceal a rifle on their person. After a brief foot pursuit, the individual was detained, and a loaded rifle was recovered.
All three individuals were taken into custody.
