Wilmington Police arrest man in connection to November 27th shooting incident:
Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection to a November 27th shooting incident following a vehicle pursuit.
On November 27th at approximately 6:00 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the area of West 7th and North Washington Streets in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, police located a 19-year-old male gunshot victim, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The case was assigned to Detective Johnnie Everett of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Everett identified a potential suspect vehicle that was used during the shooting incident.
On December 17th police located the suspect vehicle in the 3600 block of Miller Road, and attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. The vehicle fled from police and the front passenger, 39-year-old Haywood Johnson, fled from the vehicle on foot. Moments later Johnson was taken into custody without further incident. Police recovered two loaded .9mm handguns.
After further investigation, Detective Everett was able to identify Johnson as a suspect in connection with the November 27th shooting incident.
Johnson has been charged with following offenses:
- Assault (First Degree)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited - 6 Counts
- Reckless Endangering (First Degree)
- Resisting Arrest
