On the evening of Friday, December 19, the Sonora Police Department was requested to respond to the 500 block of East 2nd Street in Sonora, Texas, in reference to a report of animals possibly being abandoned.

Upon arrival, a Sonora Police Officer located four dogs that appeared to have been abandoned at the residence. Based on the initial investigation, it appeared the animals had been left unattended for an extended period of time, possibly for several months, without adequate food, or proper shelter.

Due to the condition of the animals and the surrounding environment, the Sonora Police Department took possession of the dogs to ensure their safety and well-being. An investigation was immediately initiated.

The Sonora Police Department is working closely with our local veterinarian and the Sutton County Prosecutor’s Office in connection with this ongoing case. This matter is being investigated as a possible animal cruelty case, and charges may be filed against the individuals responsible pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Sonora Police Department has taken additional measures to ensure the animals are receiving proper care, including providing warmth and shelter during the current cold weather conditions.
