Detective Derrick McGinnis with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 27-year-old Nicholas Gregory Pendley of Spruce Pine with felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. He was denied bond due to already being out on pretrial release.
On December 2, Deputy Angel Hernandez spoke with a McDowell County resident about a vehicle theft. The victim stated an acquaintance had removed her vehicle from her driveway without authorization. The victim also stated she located the vehicle at an auto body shop in Spruce Pine but was unable to retrieve it due to a “mechanics lien” having been placed on it.
An investigation by detectives determined Pendley had taken the vehicle without authorization, and charges were filed.
Spruce Pine Police Department assisted with the incident.
