MERIDIAN, ID –   

At around 7:30pm on 12-23-25 Meridian Police were dispatched to the intersection of E Fairview Avenue and NE 5^th Street in Meridian for a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.  It was discovered a GMC Sierra traveling eastbound on Fairview struck a pedestrian who was crossing Fairview at or near NE 5^th Street.  Witnesses and passers-by began providing aid to the pedestrian prior to the arrival of the Meridian Police Department, Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Meridian Fire Department, and Ada County Paramedics.  Tragically the pedestrian, a 78-year-old male, did not survive.  The identity of the pedestrian will be released by the Ada County Coroner’s Office at a later time.  The driver of the GMC, also a 78-year-old male, remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation.

The initial investigation revealed the pedestrian was pushing a stroller or rollator walker type device while crossing Fairview.  Lighting conditions were low, and it was unclear which direction he was crossing Fairview and whether it was within an unmarked crosswalk.  The Meridian Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash, and their efforts are focused on determining the precise location of impact and whether either party could have reasonably avoided the crash.  The outcome of the investigation will determine whether criminal charges are warranted and as these factors are critically important, no further information will be released regarding the cause or nature of the crash.
