Advisory

NWS Winter Storm Watch in effect; Hoboken planning for likely snowfall Friday night; Temporary no-parking on parts of Grand Street

The City of Hoboken, and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), are tracking a winter storm system that is forecasted to impact our area on Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm watch for Hudson County, including Hoboken, indicating the potential for accumulating and plowable snowfall is increasing.

The City’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Public Works (DPW) is prepared, with crews on standby to salt and plow roads, as necessary, beginning Friday afternoon through Saturday, for possible post storm cleanup.

Discounted garage parking available

Due to the anticipated storm and to assist in keeping streets clear, a special rate of $5 per 24-hour period will be offered at Garage B (28 2nd St.), Garage D (215 Hudson St.), and Midtown Garage (371 4th St.) for residents with Resident On-Street Parking Permits or Temporary Parking Permits.

Discounted parking is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26 and end at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27. Regular rates will apply at all other times. As a reminder, cars left in the participating garages after the discount is scheduled to expire at 4 p.m. on Saturday, will be charged posted rates.

Please note, garages typically fill quickly as space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Temporary No-Parking on Grand Street between Third and Eighth Streets

To assist with possible snow removal, Temporary No-Parking signs have been posted on the east side of Grand Street between Third and Eighth Streets. The signs are in effect for 24 hours, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 26, until 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27. This is necessary to allow plows to completely clear snow to the curbline, which can help prevent parked vehicles from encroaching into the travel lane.

Snow Emergency Routes reminder

Residents are reminded that vehicles parked on snow emergency routes, when the streets are snow covered, may be subject to ticketing and towing. This is necessary to allow emergency vehicles to move throughout Hoboken for the safety and welfare of all residents. As always, cars parked illegally in, or too close to crosswalks, are subject to towing.

Hoboken OEM will announce if and when snow emergency routes go into effect via Nixle and on X at: @HobokenOEM.

Keep sidewalks and curb ramps clear

Property owners and occupants are reminded that they have six (6) hours after the completion of a storm to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining curb ramps or curb cuts.

Residents are urged to use caution when shoveling and to assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow from their properties. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants.

The City performs proactive inspections and relies on citizen complaints to help identify property owners that are not meeting sidewalk safety requirements. While most property owners comply with the safety regulations, the City will issue fines to those who do not keep sidewalks clear. To report an un-shoveled sidewalk, please email [email protected]
