Advisory

Property owners reminded to clear snow and ice from sidewalks; Emergency snow routes lifted; Discounted parking ends at 4 p.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a special weather statement indicating the snow will continue to taper off this morning. Hoboken Public Works crews worked throughout the night and will continue to clear City streets and public property of snow and ice as necessary.

The Office of Emergency Management encourages residents to continue to avoid travel if possible or consider mass transit if travel is necessary.

Emergency snow routes released

Emergency snow routes are sufficiently plowed and available for parking.

As a reminder, Temporary No-Parking signs have been posted on the east side of Grand Street between Third and Eighth Streets to allow plows to completely clear snow to the curbline, which can help prevent parked vehicles from encroaching into the travel lane and allow for the effective flow of traffic. The signs are in effect until 4 p.m. today, Dec. 27.

Discounted parking ends at 4 p.m

Those who have parked at a municipal garage with the discounted rate are reminded that discounted parking ends at 4 p.m. today, Dec. 27. Regular rates will apply after 4 p.m.

Keep Sidewalks and Curb Ramps Clear

Property owners and occupants are reminded that they have six (6) hours after the completion of a storm to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining curb ramps or curb cuts.

Residents are urged to use caution when shoveling and to please assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow from their properties. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants.

The City performs proactive inspections and relies on citizen complaints to help identify property owners that are not meeting sidewalk safety requirements. While most property owners comply with the safety regulations, the City will issue fines to those who do not keep sidewalks clear.
