You may notice heavy smoke in the area due to a large mulch fire along Dowdy Ferry Road. This incident is in the City of Wilmer’s jurisdiction. City of Ferris crews, alongside multiple partner agencies, assisted with the response.

The fire is contained and our units have cleared the scene. Because mulch can hold heat deep inside a pile, Wilmer officials expect it may continue to smolder for several days. With today’s wind, smoke may drift into Ferris at times.

Please use patience as crews continue monitoring and managing the situation. If you have breathing sensitivities, consider limiting outdoor activity when smoke is noticeable. Call 911 only for emergencies.
