Powell Couple Charged with Stealing Golf Cart from Church
A Marion couple was charged after stealing a golf cart on Friday morning from the campus of a local church.
Detective Aaron Vallini with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Dillan Powell, 28, and Meaghan Powell, 36, each with felony Larceny and felony First Degree Trespassing. Dillan was additionally charged with felony Attempting to Obtain Property Under False Pretense. The couple was denied bond due to both already being out on pretrial release.
On Dec. 27, Deputy Connor Clark took a report from a local church employee who reported that a Yamaha golf cart had been removed from the campus.
Video footage showed individuals walking through the church campus parking lot, entering a restricted area and taking the cart on the morning of Dec. 26.
An investigation by detectives led to the recovery of the stolen item at a nearby residence.
Chief Deputy Nathan Mace would like to thank his staff for the swift response in bringing the investigation to a close.
“Our detectives did an outstanding job following leads and bringing this case to a quick resolution,” said Chief Mace. “Their hard work remains consistent and thorough, and this is yet another example of great detective work coming out of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.”
Chief Mace also thanks the community for their assistance in this matter as well.
“We appreciate the tips and information shared by citizens through social media and our Sheriff’s Office app – all great avenues of communication.”
