Community Alert: House Call Scam

The Janesville Police Department wants to inform the community about a recent uptick in scam phone calls targeting private businesses and local residents. These scammers are contacting private businesses such as food delivery services or home service businesses making it appear as though the call is coming from a family member requesting a service at the target’s residence.
 
The business is asked to respond to the home, call the scammer back and hand the phone to the resident. There is then some sort of fraudulent pitch given to the resident in hopes to receive money from the resident.
 
Please be advised: This is a scam.

• Private businesses should use caution when receiving these unusual requests.
• If a caller is offering you money over the phone in exchange for gift cards or similar, it is likely a scam.

 
If you receive one of these suspicious calls:

• Do not share any personal or financial information.
• End the interaction immediately.
• Report the call to the Rock County Communications Center at 608-757-2244.
