Assault with Great Bodily Injury Investigation

On 01/01/2026, at 12:28 pm, West Covina Police Department and West Covina Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the 1700 block of W. Mossberg Ave. regarding a family disturbance. Upon the arrival of police and fire personnel, they located two elderly adult victims (77 years old and 74 years old) with severe visible injuries. The victims were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. One of the victims was treated for their injuries and released from the hospital. The other victim remains in critical condition at this time.

West Covina Police Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. Preliminary investigation indicated the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Joshua Philip Day, a resident of West Covina, physically assaulted his grandparents after an argument. The suspect remained barricaded inside the residence. SWAT members responded. After a four-hour standoff, Day was taken into custody.

Day was booked into the West Covina Police Department jail. His bail was set at $200,000. An arraignment hearing is scheduled on 01/06/2026 at the West Covina Superior Courthouse.
