Press Release: January 2, 2026, Fatal Traffic Collision
On January 2, 2026, at approximately 12:18 p.m., Fremont Police Department Officers responded to a report of a traffic collision on the 44000 block of Osgood Road, involving a semi-truck and a bicyclist. Officers quickly arrived and, unfortunately, found the bicyclist had succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck remained on scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation. The Fremont Police Traffic Unit assumed the collision investigation. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office responded for the decedent.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the semi-truck was traveling northbound on Osgood Road and stopped in the two-way center left turn lane to prepare for a left turn into a business parking lot. The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was traveling southbound on the west side of Osgood Road. As the semi-truck began to turn into the driveway, the bicyclist was approaching, and the two collided. The point of impact was the front driver's side of the semi-truck and the oncoming bicyclist. The cause of the collision is still under investigation; however, drug or alcohol impairment is not suspected to be a contributing factor.
This is Fremont’s first fatal traffic collision in 2026.
