Vehicle Theft and Burglary Suspect Apprehended
On January 3rd at about 2:45 AM, a burglary and "prowling" incident was reported in the 2600 block of Fitzgerald Rd. Later that day, at about 1:00 PM a vehicle theft was reported in the 1000 block of Treadwell Ave. SVPD Officers were later able to identify Simi Valley resident, Jeremy McKnight (33 years old), as the suspect in both incidents. At about 3: 20 PM, SVPD was informed that McKnight was involved in a family dispute at his residence in the 1000 block of Treadwell Ave. When officers arrived at the scene, they determined that McKnight was at the residence and had retreated into his bedroom. Officers made numerous attempts to make contact with McKnight, but he refused to exit his bedroom. Officers utilized a "Pepperball Launcher" to introduce OC through his open front bedroom window, in an attempt to gain compliance. McKnight still refused to exit his room and surrender to officers. SVPD Officers, with the assistance of a police canine, entered the bedroom and located McKnight under the bed. He was subsequently taken into custody. He was transported to Simi Valley Hospital for minor injuries sustained from the canine apprehension and OC exposure. He was later transported to Ventura County Main Jail and booked for violations of 10851 VC, 459 PC, 647(h) PC and 148(a)(1) PC.
