Assault with Great Bodily Injury Investigation Resulted in Homicide

On 01/01/2026, at 12:28 pm, West Covina Police Department and West Covina Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the 1700 block of W. Mossberg Ave. regarding a family disturbance. Upon the arrival of police and fire personnel, they located two elderly adult victims with severe visible injuries. The victims were physically assaulted by their grandson, identified as 28-year-old Joshua Philip Day, after an argument. Day was arrested and booked at the West 
Covina Police Department jail.

Both victims were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. The grandfather, identified as 77-year-old Philip Sesanto, a resident of West Covina, was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital. The grandmother, identified as 74-year-old Priscilla Sesanto, a resident of West Covina, sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased on 01/02/2026.

West Covina Police Detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office at Pomona Superior Court on 01/05/2026, and Day was criminally charged with 187(a) PC – Murder and 368(b)(1) PC – Elder Abuse resulting in Great Bodily Injury or Death. Day, who has No Bail, will remain in custody with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and his next court hearing is scheduled for 01/14/2026 at Pomona Superior Court.
