REMINDER: NJDEP to host Rebuild by Design community meeting Jan. 8

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection will host a virtual community meeting on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. to provide an update on the Rebuild by Design – Hudson River project. The project team will discuss the project’s progress, project schedule, and anticipated construction activities.

To register for the community meeting, CLICK HERE.

The Rebuild by Design – Hudson River Project is a comprehensive flood protection system designed to safeguard portions of Hoboken, Jersey City, and Weehawken from storm surge flooding. During Hurricane Sandy, this type of flooding inundated Hoboken with more than 500 million gallons of water and caused over $100 million in private property damage. The project is intended to integrate flood-resistant infrastructure with new community amenities, helping to protect residents while also enhancing the urban environment.

In southern Hoboken, the Resist flood barrier will be incorporated into the streetscape through features such as wayfinding signage, planters, seating, mural space, and other public amenities. In northern Hoboken, the flood protection system will also take the form of Harborside Park, which is anticipated to be completed in 2027.
