Deputies Rescue Injured Dog, Arrest Suspect for Animal Cruelty and Illegal Weapons in Rancho Cucamonga”

DATE/TIME: January 6, 2026, 4:54 p.m.

INCIDENT: PC597(A) - Intentional Cruelty to an Animal
                   PC30605(A) - Illegal Possession of an Assault Weapon
                   PC32310(A) - Manufacture / Sale of Large Capacity Magazine
                   PC23920 - Possession of a Firearm Without an ID Mark
                   PC29180(C) - Own a Firearm Without a Serial Number

LOCATION: 8000 Block of Haven Ave, Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT(S): Willie Anthony Conant, 37-year-old male, Resident of Rancho Cucamonga

VICTIM(S): State of California

SUMMARY: On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station responded to a call for service regarding animal cruelty. The reporting party told the dispatcher an unknown male was hitting a dog on the balcony of a condominium.

Deputies arrived on scene and contacted the reporting party, who witnessed the cruelty and captured the incident on video. Through investigation, deputies learned the unknown male, later identified as Willie Anthony Conant, intentionally struck his dog several times. A search warrant for the location was authored and served.

Deputies located the dog on the balcony, with injuries to his legs. Deputies also located a 3-D printed, un-serialized AR-15 rifle with multiple large capacity magazines. Deputies transported the dog to an animal hospital for medical attention and treatment.

Conant was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for PC597(A)- Intentional cruelty to animals, PC30605(A)- Illegal possession of an assault weapon, PC32310(A)- Manufacture/ sale of large capacity magazine, PC23920-Possession of a firearm without an ID mark, and PC29180(C)-Own a firearm without a serial number.
