DETAILS: On January 7, 2026, at approximately 6:14 pm, Officers were sent to the intersection of Bushland Ave and Western Street on a motorcycle versus motor vehicle collision. When officers arrived, they learned Daniel Vicente Contreras III, male, age 24, was driving westbound Bushland Ave on a motorcycle approaching Western Street. A Chevrolet SUV was eastbound on Bushland turning northbound onto Western Street. The SUV turned in front of the motorcycle, and the motorcycle struck the Chevy. Mr. Contreras was taken to a local area hospital and later died of injuries received in the crash. The driver and passenger of the SUV were uninjured in the wreck. Justice of the Peace Thomas Jones has ordered an autopsy. Mr. Contreras was wearing a helmet. This incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Unit of the Amarillo Police Department.
