Yesterday’s Verizon outage is a reminder that not all emergency systems rely on cellular service
Ho-Ho-Kus’ Gamewell Fire Alarm Boxes are hard-wired, monitored 24/7, and remain operational during a cellular service outage, such as the one we experienced yesterday with Verizon. Gamewell boxes are mounted on telephone poles in the downtown business district and outside schools. The system also connects to key municipal structures and high-occupancy buildings. When the Gamewell system is activated, it notifies the police desk, alerts firefighters, and initiates the fire horn, ensuring responders are notified even when other communications may be unavailable.
Always call 911 when able, but during outages, Gamewell boxes remain a critical backup. To activate a Gamewell box: open the door using the handle; pull down the small white hook located inside the box; stay at the box until a First Responder arrives. Please use only in true emergencies.
