DATE/TIME: January 14, 2026, at 1:48 p.m.,

INCIDENT: PC 29800(a)(1) - Felon in Possession of a Firearm
PC 246.3(a) - Negligent Discharge of a Firearm

LOCATION: 39000 block of Canyon Drive, Forest Falls

SUSPECT(S): Michael Dijam Johnson, 29-year-old, Resident of Forest Falls

VICTIM(S): State of California

SUMMARY: On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 1:48 p.m., deputies from the Yucaipa Station responded to a call for service involving a man with a gun in the 39000 block of Canyon Drive in the unincorporated area of Forest Falls. Deputies arrived and heard several shots being fired from the riverbed North/East of the incident location.

Deputies requested air support to help search for the subject discharging the firearm and tactfully set up a perimeter to keep the public safe from entering the area. As deputies searched, Michael Johnson appeared from the riverbed onto Valley of the Falls Drive. He was unarmed and detained without incident.

When questioned, Johnson was not forthcoming and was unable to provide information regarding the whereabouts of the rifle, indicating another male took the weapon and it was no longer in his possession.

After establishing a search for the weapon and a potential second subject, deputies continued efforts to locate the firearm. The bolt-action rifle was subsequently discovered concealed inside a hollowed log several hundred yards from the original incident location.

Michael Dijam Johnson was found to be a convicted felon on Post-Release Community Supervision (PRCS). He was arrested for P.C. 29800(a)(1) - Felon in Possession of a Firearm and PC246.3(a) - Negligent Discharge of a Firearm.

He was booked at the Central Detention Center and is being held on $50,000 bail.
