Just after 8 am, Gilroy dispatchers received calls of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at the intersection of Charles Lux Drive and Lopez Wy in the City of Gilroy. Officers arrived on scene and learned that a man and a woman had been hit while walking in the crosswalk. Life saving efforts were performed immediately, but unfortunately, the man was declared deceased at the scene. The women was flown to an area hospital for treatment and is in serious condition.
The driver, who we are only identifying as a teenager, was detained and is being cooperative with the investigation. Drugs, alcohol, and speed are not considered a factor in this tragic collision.
